Creating a Corporate Image with Proventia Desktop
If your workforce is deployed with the same or similar hardware and they all use a basic set of applications, you may want to make an image with the programs that most users use. This helps with saving time in installing applications after the OS is installed. Most applications may work fine by just installing it and then creating the image. If you’re going to make Proventia Desktop part of your image, there are a few steps you may want to make sure you do to keep the “back end” database clean.
Proventia Desktop, after being installed on a computer, creates a GUID. This is a unique identifier that sets this install apart from the others. If every computer has the same GUID, then you’ll only see one computer at a time in the Site Protector database. This creates difficulty in trouble shooting problems. To avoid this, follow the below steps to putting Proventia in your image:
- Install Proventia Desktop with the Agent Install
- Stop the BlackICE and RapApp services
- Remove these three files and registry key (The files are located in the install folder for Proventia. This is typically C:\Program Files\ISS\Proventia Desktop)
- Guid.txt
- GroupSettings.xml
- Lastdeviceid
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Agent
- Extract the GroupSettings.xml and Lastdeviceid from the agent install and copy them to the install folder for Proventia Desktop
- With the services still stopped, prepare the computer for imaging.
